CIEE: The Council on International Educational Exchange is the leading U.S. non-governmental international education organization. CIEE creates and administers programs that allow high school and university students and educators to study and teach abroad.
Into the chilly postwar world of 1947, CIEE launched the next generation of study abroad programs, the first since they’d been suspended during World War II. Senators and scholars worried about how to increase international understanding and establish trust between nations. As soon as there was enough capacity aboard trans-Atlantic ships to carry students, CIEE programs began teaching.
CIEE Today
CIEE is composed of two interrelated but operationally independent entities based in Portland, Maine and Tokyo, Japan. Our membership continues to grow.
For U.S. high school and university students, CIEE administers approximately 104 study abroad programs in over 35 host countries and teaching programs in Chile, China, Spain, and Thailand. Educators can participate in 26 summer seminars in 28 countries. CIEE also hosts approximately 1,000 international high school exchange students in the United States each year, bringing the world to host families, schools and communities.
The Trainee Program – a category of the J-1 Visa – constitutes one of CIEE’s core areas of competency. During its nearly 20 years as administrator of this program, CIEE has supported more than 50,000 participants in their endeavor to expand their knowledge and skills and to enhance their professional qualifications. The knowledge and experience accumulated over this time, along with an enduring commitment to quality, has allowed CIEE to remain the largest sponsor in this category and an overall leader in program administration.
CIEE's Work & Travel USA Program makes it possible for international students to explore life in the United States. The program is designed so that overseas students can become more than tourists, experiencing life in the U.S. firsthand by working alongside U.S. citizens in temporary employment. CIEE has been designated by the U.S. State Department to administer this J-1 visa program since 1969.

The Commonwealth countries, with a membership of 53, are bound by their common British heritage yet are unique in their diversified range of culture, traditions and tourism offerings. The Commonwealth Tourism Centre serves the member nations and the public as a point of contact on the Commonwealth countries and their tourism development. Find out all about this group of nations and its focus on tourism through the Commonwealth Tourism Centre.
The Commonwealth association is formed by 53 countries, with a total of 1.8 billion citizens representing some 30 per cent of the world's population. The countries have a shared heritage of colonial influence, all having come under the British Empire at one time. However, their uniqueness - in culture, tradition, race, religion - set them apart from each other.
With the emergence of the tourism industry as a major player in many Commonwealth economies, there was a need for a common organization to unify their efforts and act as reference point for anything related to Commonwealth tourism. The Commonwealth Tourism Centre was created to fill the role and today it serves the member nations and the public to the best of its abilities

As the pre-eminent organization for Destination Management Executives, the mission is to increase the professionalism and effectiveness of destination management through member and industry education, establishment of standard ethical practices and raise the level of awareness of the value of destination management to the respective association, corporate and general public.
Who We Are
Owners and CEOs of the most experienced and long-standing destination management companies in existence form the framework of the Association of Destination Management Executives (ADME). These visionaries came together in 1995, after a series of exploratory meetings in which they agreed an organization was needed to represent this segment of the travel and meetings industry. Many concerned companies donated funds to establish the only non-profit association in existence today for destination management company executives and their staffs. We are not a lead-generating or marketing consortium. We supply information to corporate and association meetings professionals regarding member DMCs in their locale or a locale in which they will be managing meetings, events, incentive programs, etc.
Our Principles of Professional and Ethical Conduct
ADME adopted these principals in 1997. Click here to review them.
Bylaws and Policies and Procedures
ADME members approved the revised bylaws at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, 10 February 2007 at the Westin Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, CA. Click here for the revised bylaws. These new bylaws separates the policies and procedures into a separate document - click here to view.
