In 1769, the Duke of Chartres, future Duke of Orleans, made build close to the village of Heap a "folie". The drauwer and author of Carmontelle comedies, helped of a landscape designer Thomas Blaikie, created an imaginary garden with false Gothic ruins, a Dutch mill, a Tartar tent, a pagoda, an Egyptian pyramid... The garden was a place of curiosities in the open air revealing the attractions of nature and civilization. October 22, 1797, it is in this park that the first parachutist of the history, A. Garnerin sprang since a montgolfier.
In 1860, at the time of the fastening of the village of Heap in Paris, half of the park was sold to the Péreire brothers by the town of Paris in order to build private mansions.
Second half was refitted in landscaped garden by Alphand on behalf of the Haussmann prefect, and was issued park. Along the its quiet alleys, the park preserved beautiful statues, its Egyptian pyramid - work of Carmontelle -, its Naumachie...
The park also has many infrastructures for young people: swings, toboggans, vats with sand, cycle tracks...

The Dower House Garden occupies a 1.5 acre site in a beautiful setting within the grounds of Morville Hall, near Bridgnorth in Shropshire. The garden aims to tell the history of English gardening in a sequence of separate gardens designed in the style of different historical periods. Particular attention is given to the use of authentic plants and construction techniques. Old roses are a speciality of the garden.
The garden was designed by Dr Katherine Swift, the garden historian and writer, who has lived at The Dower House since 1988. The garden has been featured in many newspapers and magazines, including Hortus, Gardens Illustrated, House & Garden, The English Garden, Gardening 'Which?', Garden Inspirations and The Saturday Telegraph, and is listed in The Daily Telegraph Good Gardens Guide and the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden Finder. Katherine's book about making the garden, entitled 'The Morville Hours' is due to be published by Bloomsbury in 2007. She regularly writes for The Times and broadcasts on BBC Radio Four’s 'Woman's Hour'.

The Royal Botanic Gardens was established in 1846, after Lieutenant Governor Charles La Trobe selected the site on the southern bank of the Yarra River.rnrnAt the time of its foundation, the Gardens’ site was an uninspiring mixture of rocky outcrops and swampy marshland, but it was not long before the foundations were being laid for one of the great gardens of the world.rnrnIn 1857, the Gardens’ first full time Director, Ferdinand von Mueller was appointed. Mueller was to become one of the most acclaimed botanists of the 19th century, and was ultimately awarded Knighthoods by over 20 countries. Mueller established the Gardens’ scientific centre, The National Herbarium of Victoria, and amassed an extraordinary range of plants from every corner of the world.rnrnIn 1873 Mueller was succeeded by William Guilfoyle, who set about creating the Gardens’ world-famous "picturesque" landscape style. Guilfoyle sculpted sweeping lawns, meandering paths and glittering lakes, creating a series of vistas offering a surprise around every corner.

The Garden Route and Klein Karoo spans South Africas Western Cape coastal belt from Witsands whale birthing haven in the west to Plettenberg Bays beach, polo and party-going pleasures. Then there's the arid geological basin of red sandstone along the interior, wedged between the fynbos-adorned Heidelberg in the west and Uniondales eastern sheep farming and rock art treasures.
Its all about an abundance of blue skies, white sand beaches, rolling oceans, dramatic mountain scenery, indigenous fynbos, ostrich antics and local hospitality. A place where you can travel along routes where you are often alone on the open road or make for the malls and beaches on packaged tour comforts. Golden vineyards, sun-drenched orchards, beaches, pin-drop-silent forests, sweeping lakes and birds eye view passes add to the mix.
