Eco Tourism
Ecotourism: sustainable tourism which has minimal impact on the environment, such as safaris (Kenya), Rainforests (Belize) and hiking (Lapland), or national parks.
|
Ecotourism is environmentally responsible and culturally sensitive travel to relatively undisturbed areas. The purpose of ecotourism is to foster an appreciation of nature and culture while promoting conservation, supporting sustainable community development, minimizing tourism’s negative impacts, and providing for the active, beneficial involvement of local communities.
A true ecotourism experience involves well-planned, interactive learning experiences that introduce small groups of travelers to new environments. Ecotourism also commits the travel and tourism industry to sustainable operations models and environmentally sound practices. As such, ecotourism offers a great source for potential solutions to serious environmental and social problems

The Ecotourism Resource Centre (ERC) is for students, academics, operators, stakeholders and travellers interested in ecotourism, nature based tourism, ecologically sustainable development and related issues. It is not an exhaustive list of relevant sites. It isn't intended to be, nor should it be relied on as the only source of information on a topic. Please note that inclusion of a resource or book title does not necessarily imply endorsement or support of an individual or organisation by Big Volcano

Ecotourism Kenya is a civil society organization that was founded in 1996 to promote ecotourism and sustainable tourism practices in Kenya. Founded with enormous industry support, the society was charged with the responsibility of providing the required support for the development of ecotourism and sustainable tourism in the country.
Today, the society continues to pursue the vision of making Kenya’s tourism sustainable, in terms of concern for the environment and the welfare of local populations. As a membership organization, Ecotourism Kenya brings together individuals, community based organizations (CBOs) and corporate organizations in a forum where they can discuss the concept of ecotourism and use this knowledge to improve practices in their respective fields.
