Join our family! Welcome! Whether you’re a first-timer or an old friend to the Northland, you’ve come to the right place for family fun and adventure – Kabetogama Lake, the gateway to Voyageurs National Park. We invite you to share with us this legendary land of the Ojibwe Indians and French Voyageurs. As you relax under the stars at one of our many fine resorts, the vast sky-tinted waters of Kabetogama, the deep woods and rugged island shores will melt worries away. Many of us came here long ago, breathed the pure, pine-scented air and knew we were home. Come join our family.
Kabetogama Lake Association 1-800-524-9085
Fishing Report
A Wilderness Paradise
Born of an ancient glacier flow, edged by the great Canadian Shield. Kabetogama Lake is surrounded by wilderness untamed by time. Here you’ll find creation in its most natural state, teeming with plant and wildlife – aspen, white pine and spruce, black bear, deer, moose and wolf. The lake itself is dotted with over 200 remote, scenic islands that maintain their beauty through harsh winter storms, and produce rich foliage and wild berries in the summer.
Situated along the U.S. – Canadian border in Minnesota, Kabetogama Lake has a 500-mile, rocky shoreline, 25,000 acres of clean, cool water, and is one of four major lakes that make up Voyageurs National Park. Established in 1975, Minnesota’s only national park commemorates a key stretch of waterway canoed by 18th century French-Canadian Voyageurs who transported goods and furs along the international border lakes.
Modern-day “Voyageurs” still travel the waterways as the best means of exploring the park and its environs.
Whether you’re an angler looking for walleyes, someone in need of relaxation or an outdoor enthusiast, resorts along the Kabetogama shoreline can provide you with boats and motors or safe docking for your own boat. Large boats and motors have easy access to the interconnecting Voyageur waterway of Kabetogama, Namakan, Sand Point and Crane lakes (65 miles west to east). Historic Kettle Falls Hotel and Dam is a popular destination. Built between 1910 and 1913, the hotel has been restored and is owned and operated by the National Park Service.
The vast waters of Rainy Lake are accessible by a short mechanical portage. If you want to experience the “great outdoors,” canoes, kayaks and complete outfitting services are available for you to camp out and visit the wild.
