Even those who have no exposure to rock climbing, can learn it on the artificial wall set up at the State Youth Centre in Bangalore, and then set off on trekking expeditions under expert care and guidance. Water Sports Tucked away amidst the lush greenery of the Western Ghats, along the Sharavathy backwaters, is Honnemardu - a haven for aqua adventure enthusiasts. Lovers of water sports throng this idyllic spot for coracle rafting, canoeing and windsurfing. Numerous islands dotting the backwaters make it an ideal island camping site, too. Trekking If trekking is your cup of tea, over 200 trails have been explored and marked in the Western Ghats, for trekking and nature trails. River Rafting and Angling The azure waters of the river Cauvery, are ideal for river rafting. 82 km from Mysore is the Cauvery Fishing Camp, at Bhimeshwari. Place : Biligirirangana Hills - 247 Kms. From Bangalore / 114 Kms From Mysore. Biligirirangana hills hosts a wildlife camp here, run by the forest department. Right on top of the hill, at an altitude of 5,091 feet above sea level, stands the Biligiriranganaswamy Temple, from which the resort takes its name. Kudremukh Transportation : by Road. Place : Kudremukh - 316 Kms. From Bangalore / 114 Kms From Mysore. Kudremukh is the secluded hill station, is rich in Iron ore deposits. This is one of the perfect Trekker's trail. The Ministry promotes the importance of tourism to the national economy at all levels within the public and parastatal sectors. It provides the Malta Tourism Authority with the necessary funding to enable it to meet its objectives including the marketing of Malta as a travel and tourism destination. The Ministry sets policy, monitors and ensures the implementation of the Malta Tourism Authority's Strategic Plan and sustains the development of Malta's human resources to meet the tourism industry's needs. It also oversees the monitoring and enforcement of regulations, the maintenance of appropriate standards for accommodation and catering establishments and generally ensures that every effort is made to improve Malta's tourism product. Heritage The Ministry for Tourism and Culture is legally bound through the Cultural Heritage Act 2002 to safeguard Malta's National Heritage through better management and with an emphasis on accessibility and interpretation. Sections 3-6 of the Cultural Heritage Act refer specifically to the State and the Minister as duty bound to manage, protect and make accessible to the public these cultural heritage assets. Four main official entities work in coordination with the Ministry in this area: Heritage Malta is the official agency responsible for the management of museums and heritage sites. The Superintendence of Cultural Heritage ensures the protection and accessibility of Malta's cultural heritage and the Committee of Guarantee. The Malta Centre for Restoration has the mission to become a centre of excellence for the teaching, training, research and practice of conservation, restoration, maintenance, management and presentation of the cultural heritage, and to provide conservation and restoration services and consultation as may be required. The Committee of Guarantee has the duty to ensure and facilitate the collaboration between the different agencies with direct or indirect responsibility for the protection and management of the cultural heritage sector and advise the Government on the National Strategy for Cultural Heritage The Ministry's agenda has prioritised issues which are pivotal to the safeguarding of cultural assets of a critical and national value. Through the Cultural Heritage Act 2002 and the entities established under this Act there is a drive to; Consolidate management and administrative systems Create better networking and integration between entities involved in cultural heritage Upgrade state museums and sites in line with International standards, Support the compilation and development of sustainable management plans for UNESCO sites, Conserve and protect the national cultural assets in respect of International Charters and Conventions to which Malta is signatory.
