Backpacker Tourism
Backpacker Tourism is a term used to denote a form of low-cost independent international travel, differentiating it from other forms of tourism notably by the following typical attributes: minimal budget use, longer duration traveling, use of public transport and multiple destinations/countries. The origin of the name comes from the backpacks that budget travelers generally carry in the interests of mobility and flexibility.

Hecla Island is a paradise for those who enjoy wildlife. The Island also includes an historic Icelandic Village, walking trails through the Grassy Narrows Marsh, rugged limestone cliffs, beaches, a harbour, one of Canada's best golf courses, and first class fishing.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT HECLA
The park was established in August of 1969 and opened for public use in 1975. The year 2005 marked our 30th anniversary.
The Causeway completed in 1972 replaced the ferry service.
Hecla is 6.5 km wide and 26.5 km long.
Other islands which are a part of Hecla Provincial Park include Black Island, Goose Island, Deer Island, Punk Island and Little Punk Island.
Icelandic settlers landed on Hecla in the summer of 1876. At one point in the 1920's and 1930's the population of Hecla was over 500. Today there are nine families living in the village and four families living at the north shore cottage subdivision. Resettlement is currently taking place and our population is increasing annually.
In 1926 the present Gull Harbour Lighthouse was constructed, the original one was built in 1898.
There are over 180 species of birds and 24 kinds of animals found on the island.
Animals found in the park include moose, white tailed deer, fox, beaver, coyote, wolf, lynx, fisher, skunk, bear, raccoons and otter and 1 caribou.
Strawberry, raspberry, dewberry, saskatoon, chokecherry and pincherry are some of the edible berries found on the island.

The Baccalieu Trial Tourism Association was formed to be the professional Tourism Industry Association of the Baccalieu Trail.
The Association, which represents individual members and businesses involved both directly and indirectly in the tourism/hospitality industry, is devoted to the promotion and development of tourism in the region through cooperation and partnership.
It is an advocate for the regional private sector tourism industry, voicing both the praises and concerns of members. It is also a liaison for the local industry with regional organizations, with other regional tourism associations, with provincial tourism organizations, and with various levels of government.

Media Lists - Media lists that include travel editors, free-lance writers, syndicated columnists and state radio and television outlets are developed and available to the tourism industry.

School Packet - Develop a school packet for distribution to promote and educate students, teachers and parents about Price County.
Fall Color and Snow Report - Report the Department's fall color and snow conditions and deliver the information to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, media and general traveling public.

The Price County Department of Tourism is pleased to offer several co-op advertising opportunities on a yearly basis. The goal of this program is to pool the department's and individual advertisers' resources to generate a more powerful Price County travel advertising message. While Price County's advertising messages increase the awareness of the county, your message allows you to close the sale. In addition, advertisers share in frequency and volume discounts that translate into dollar savings for each participant
