Backpacker Tourism
Backpacker Tourism is a term used to denote a form of low-cost independent international travel, differentiating it from other forms of tourism notably by the following typical attributes: minimal budget use, longer duration traveling, use of public transport and multiple destinations/countries. The origin of the name comes from the backpacks that budget travelers generally carry in the interests of mobility and flexibility.

What is the Nothern Ontario Native Tourism Assocation (NONTA)?
NONTA, or the Northern Ontario Native Tourism Association, is a non-profit organization. We work with our members to build new native tourism businesses— and to create new tourism jobs.
What does NONTA do?
NONTA’s mandate is to help its members by:
Offering advice and assistance about which tourism opportunities may be best for them
Providing advice and assistance about how to best manage First Nations tourist facilities and programs
Providing tourism marketing assistance
Supplying tourism expertise to member First Nations political and economic development organizations
Working with other organizations to find opportunities that may benefit our members.
NONTA brings success to native tourism. Formed in 1987, NONTA has a wide membership across Northern Ontario.

There are many things to see and do for tourists visiting Lanark County. Even though we are located on the western boundary of Ottawa along Highway 7, we are a world away.

Each year the Musquodoboit Valley Tourism Association sponsors the Visitor Information Centre where our staff can provide you with local information on things to do and places to see, as well as information on Nova Scotia and the Atlantic Provinces. We also have some genealogical information including community and family histories that are for sale. This information has been generously provided to us by various people within the Musquodoboit Valley, and is available on CD, disk and paper for your convenience.
